Martin Hardy Kilimanjaro Challenge 2012
Martin Hardy Kilimanjaro Challenge 2012
Story
Hi my name is Martin Hardy and I have embarked on dual fundraising and personal physical challenges to raise at least $10,000 whilst climbing Mount Kilimanjaro on behalf of Amnesty International Australia in August 2012.
With your support I will be able to tackle the physical challenge of climbing the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro the world’s highest free standing mountain. The 7 day trek via the lesser-travelled Rongai Route will ascend Africa’s highest peak (5,895m or 19,341 ft) Our own Mount Kosciuszko located in the Snowy Mountains stands at a mere 2228 metres (7310 ft)
Most importantly, I will be raising funds for Amnesty International with each and every step helping to protect human rights. The money raised will provide essential funding for Amnesty International to disclose human rights abuses accurately, quickly and persistently; to mobilise supporters to apply pressure on local governments and ultimately stop the abuse.
I am 48 years old, married with 2 children and live in Melbourne. Throughout my life and career I have been committed to social justice and community issues and in 2008 I was awarded a Winston Churchill Fellowship to conduct overseas research.
I have for many years been actively involved in local school groups and church fundraising activities, sporting groups and community events. Some of the previous fundraising I have participated in includes strenuous and not so strenuous events: Bluey Day (kids with cancer), Around the bay in a day cycling event (Smith Family), Summer Cycle for Multiple Sclerosis and compered Trivia nights fundraising for local schools.
I have decided to ‘turn up’ the volume for this challenge to climb Mount Kilimanjaro! I have committed to a dedicated training regime and fundraising campaign on behalf of Amnesty International’s important mission to ensure Human Rights to complete the challenge of a lifetime and with your help - together we can make a difference!
